Eli Wiesel's Night Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Eli Wiesel's Night - Essay Example Having faced myriad hardships during the tender age, Elie Wiesel wondered the kind of problems that he had to undergo. Weisel believed in God during his studies about the Jewish mysticism; to determine a mentor while studying at Kabbalah1. The perception that God would be found everywhere changed after being taken to Birkenau and forced to believe in a different faith. Wiesel was a committed believer who was interested in reviewing the Talmud and the Cabbala. This is depicted by his inquisitive minds when he asks his father to get him an appropriate tutor. However his father holds reservations that his son is still young to enroll for superior studies. His fatherââ¬â¢s refusal does not deter him because he approaches Moshe the Beadle for assistance over the same issue. The narrator further states that the (chariot) cattle car in which the Jews are forced to travel in is extremely congested and wretched. It is portrayed for having no room since he cannot lie down; nonetheless, they are forced to take turns so as to get place and s a short time rest. In CITATION 2: the author cleverly introduces external conflict that the Jews are facing. For instance, in the statement ââ¬Å"From this moment on, you are under the authority of the German Armyâ⬠(23-24). Wiesel illustrates conflict with the German officer and Hungarian lieutenant who confiscate all of their goods and belonging. Throughout the holocaust as reflected in the narration, there was conflict between the Jews and the Nazis. Another instance of such conflict is portrayed through Mrs. Schà ¤chter (p. 24-28). She is an example of external conflict since she keeps shouting that what her eyesight can see is fire and flames that the Jews who are with her on the train cannot. In the story this is also symbolizes foreshadowing of the future. Besides, external conflict continues to show the degree of deplorable conduct through external Eliezerââ¬â¢s family is split ââ¬ËMen to the

Question responses Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Question responses - Assignment Example The narrator says that, ââ¬Å"Sundayââ¬â¢s too my father got up early and put his clothes on in the blue black cold, then with cracked hands that ached from labor in the weekday weather made banked fires blazeâ⬠(James and Alan, 32) This goes on to show how the narratorââ¬â¢s father was concerned about the narrator. If he did not care, then he would not have woken up early even on a Sunday. The claim that the father showed unconditional love is showed universally in this poem. In my own personal life, my parents show so much concern in me; from school work, family life and also my social life, my parents have shown concern in me that can only happen if there exists the connection that is commonly known as love (James and Alan, 32). Dulce Et Decorum Est is a poem written by Wilfred Owens and it has various arguments inside it that bring out what the poem is about. When the name is translated, it means, ââ¬Å"It is sweet and meet to die for oneââ¬â¢s countryâ⬠(James and Alan, 33). And to back up the claims that the statement lacks merit, the poem has been written in order to distinguish between sweet and bitter, and pain and comfort. Even though the poem is about how sweet it is to fight and die for oneââ¬â¢s country, the pain and suffering that the individuals go through reflects more on the negative side. There is evidence to support this in that the subjects talked about include post-dramatic stress, recurring nightmares, gas attacks that are lethal which include mustard gas attacks and chlorine gas attacks. Groupware SLP - Research Paper Example The organization further subdivided its members in to Special Interest Groups of 34 different areas such as computer-human interaction and mobile communications. The ACM website (www.acm.org) is a large website which consisted of variety of resources such as journal articles, special interest groups, details about conferences, blogs, and news. All though some of the resources are free, paid membership is necessary to access the digital library and other benefits including awards and conferences. The website (home page) links with about 18 sections including publications, special interest groups, news and awards. Since the ACM try to cover all possible details about computing, the contents of the site are less specific and diluted. Although they do not publish commercial advertisement (such as Google ads) in the home page they have used much of it space (in the home page) to popularize their activities which usually require a paid membership. Photographs and quotes of the members and winners have been used for these purposes. They have placed commercial advertisements mostly as banners in some of the links/sections (example: ads in the section ââ¬Å"Online Books & Coursesâ⬠). Irrespective to its usage of ââ¬Å"orgâ⬠(organization) in the web address it provides very limited amount of free/open access information to the internet users where the usual practice of the most organizations is to provide more free information much as possible (Postel, 1984 & Gray, 1999) . According to the ACM the target audience is anyone interested on professional or educational computing (ACM, 2005). However the content and the arrangement of the website are not interesting and not attractive. They were unable to narrow down the activities to meet with the objectives. The real purpose of this website and the benefit to the audience is difficult to understand. Further the real effect and the validity of the activities such as conferences and the awards are not clear. Even though

Integration of Public Schools Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Integration of Public Schools - Essay Example This paper approves that social change, and such a drastic change at that, takes time and effort to come into place, and prove fruitful. To expect people to redesign their thinking patterns to incorporate new social laws and ideals overnight is close to a fantasy; indeed, with time, the African American population was eventually integrated into the white society, starting with the denouncement of slavery, and extending to the desegregation of the educational system. This paper analyzes the sudden movement of the African American population from the southern states into states like Wisconsin, whoââ¬â¢s percentage of the African American population increased by six hundred percent in a span of twenty years, caused unforeseen circumstances for the white population, which often reacted violently against the integration protests. These movements were considered a matter of the southern states, and suddenly the northern states were exposed to them as well. This paper tells that the late 1900s and especially the decades of 1960s and 1970s witnessed a great upheaval in the social set up of the United States in the form of the great Civil Rights movement. Although this movement had been picking up pace since the late 1800s and the early 1900s, it wasnââ¬â¢t till the late twentieth century that the general public and the legal bodies of the states started considering it a poignant issue.... in the northern states at that time, as compared to the political uprisings in the south; indeed, the Civil Rights movements for the rights of the African American population commenced from the southern states, which witnessed repeated protests, movements, walks, and boycotts (ââ¬Å"Desegregationâ⬠). The northern states provided a much more peaceful and politically tranquil environment for the African American families to settle. There was also the attraction of better educational opportunities for their children (ââ¬Å"Desegregationâ⬠). Although the constitution had afforded ââ¬Ëseparate but equalââ¬â¢ (Riley) laws, this segregation posed a lot of hindrances in the advancement of education for the students, especially the African American students, who could only attend schools in their own neighborhoods that were secluded from the white majority areas (Riley). There was a need for integration of both communities, so that education, both in the classroom and in the playground, could be properly imparted (Riley). In light of several amendments in the constitution (ââ¬Å"Desegregationâ⬠), the government was also beginning to view the segregation as an unconstitutional act (ââ¬Å"New Orleansâ⬠). It was no surprise, then, that the Civil Rights movement would address the desegregation of public schools. On the other hand, there were the anti-desegregation groups, which were largely formed by the white supremacist members (ââ¬Å"Desegregationâ⬠). It was no surprise that the white community would react against such rulings by the court. It was largely accepted as law to discriminate on the basis of color and ethnicity, as there was no constitutional ruling as yet to mark such actions as unlawful (ââ¬Å"Desegregationâ⬠). Indeed, it was stated in the constitution of South Carolina:

How do you react Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
How do you react - Essay Example Teachers commonly ââ¬Å"write a descriptive narrative of each child's cognitive and social growthâ⬠(Brualdi). I remember that in my very early years in school, I specially looked forward to getting a star whenever I submitted any work for the teacher to check. Specially in Math, I had a star on every page. In order to maintain this honor, I would work even harder so that I might not miss a star on any of the pages. Those stars served as a big source of motivation for me. I felt pleased and encouraged. I would proudly show them to my fellow class mates and peers. Many years have passed since then, but I am just as sensitive to my teachersââ¬â¢ written comments on my work as I ever was. As I stated before, my academic record has always been very good, so poor comments have been extremely rare for me. However, if I ever happen to get bad comments, I take them as a lesson to judge my performance so that I can raise it to the level where the comments become nice. Teachersââ¬â ¢ comments are of primary importance to me and I usually use them to make my writing better.
